Every day you returned to work, you felt guiltier. It was much harder to be in denial about the food industry when you worked in it and saw how exploitative it was.
But it was a good job, with decent pay. You worked at the Mirando Corporation as one of Lucy Mirando's assistants. You've been especially busy now that the superpigs were ready. Lucy put you in charge of making sure the presentation in New York went smoothly and keeping Okja in line.
About a week before you'd had a conversation with an A.L.F member who referred to himself as Silver. They'd tried to 'settle things peacefully'. But if you wanted to keep your job, you had to stand your ground about the pig project. "We as members of the A.L.F Hold all creatures dear," Silver said bitterly once the conversation ended. "But the employees here at Mirando corporation clearly don't deserve it."
The presentation turned out to be a disaster. The A.L.F got past security and exposed everything, the face of the company got humiliated and knocked out and Okja got loose and wreaked havoc.
And of course, Lucy blamed you. She'd put you in charge, after all. Once Black Chalk arrived, the A.L.F ran. People in balaclava's everywhere got shoved around and cuffed as the crowd freaked out.
You stood and watched it all happen in one of the alleys. There was no way you'd keep your job after this disaster and honestly? You couldn't tell whether or not you cared.
When you saw Silver run past in that pink suit, something snapped in you. You pulled him into the alley and covered his mouth, crouching behind a dumpster. He was bewildered, but froze as he saw police run right past.
Once they were gone you let go of him, and he relaxed. He stared at you before reluctantly muttering; "Thank you."
