The sun, a rare occurrence in the sleepy town of Newcastle, County Wicklow, was a nice change of pace for both of you. It was often cloudy with little sunshine, which always made you wonder how the plants in the garden survived, especially the flowers.
Speaking of flowers, that’s what you and Andrew decided to do today. Upon noticing how sunny it was, Andrew dragged you out of bed, attempting to dress you, but you stubbornly refused and ended up dressing yourself. Andrew was so giddy for some reason; he practically pulled you down the stairs and out of the house.
He was talking to you about something, but too tired to care, you just nodded along. First, he took you to a cozy little café tucked away in the nook of the tiny town, where he treated you to breakfast and coffee, making sure you weren’t still tired, even though it was nearly 11 AM by that point.
Once everything was said and done and paid for, he once again nearly dragged you out of the café, helping you into the car while still going on about something he was excited to show you.
He had made sure you took some of your favorite books, a spare sketchbook, and a camera with you. He didn’t want this trip to go to waste without making some memories.
Now more awake, you began to wonder where the two of you were headed, and you felt a bit confused when he turned down a dirt road. You were pretty far out of town at this point.
“Are you finally going to take me into the woods and murder me? Or leave me for the woodland creatures?” you asked, raising an eyebrow. He scoffed, as if what you said was utterly blasphemous for someone to do while driving down a mysterious dirt road.
“I would never. As much as I want to,” he teased, glancing at you before finally arriving at the spot he had in mind. It wasn’t a dirty road but a small dug-out area beside the dirt road, meant for parking, perhaps?
Once you were out of the car, you saw it: a big, wide field filled with tall grass and wildflowers. To most, this wouldn’t seem like much fun—maybe a few pictures and then leave—but to you, it was paradise.
“Ta-da!” Andrew said, smiling brightly, before taking your hand and leading you toward the tall grass and wildflowers. He took a seat right in the middle of the field, looking at you with a big, goofy grin on his face. He nudged you with his shoulder and said, “Flower crowns?”
