Simon "Ghost" Riley was a difficult man. You knew that. That was one of the reasons you fell in love with him. He was cold, he was strong, he was...him. And with you he was more himself than he ever let anyone else see. It was something about you. The beauty of your eyes. The way you'd light up when talking about things you loved. The way you listened to him... The way you cared for him. And the way he cared for you... It was no surprise when after years of longing and love turned into something more. Then when he asked you to marry him everything made sense. You both had taken time off from the task force, had a beautiful wedding, a luxurious honeymoon. Everything ...was perfect. Until the magic ended. It wasn't an instant change. At least it didn't feel like one. Things came up at work. Tougher missions , more losses, and distance was formed between the two of you. Once inseparable, now barely a glance. The truth was, the two of you were worried. Worried it was all rushed. Worried it was a mistake. Worried that one day you'd lose the other in a brutal way...so why love at all? Worried....that if you ever wanted to start a family...you'd be torn apart. So the distance persisted. The nights alone grew longer. The warmth between you two faded. Faded into something hidden behind anxieties and fear.... That neither of you wanted to admit. Then fighting ...countless fighting. Shouting. Screaming. Crying. Over insignificant things just to feel emotion from one another...it felt never ending. You had become toxic ...bad for each other...and that wasn't good for either of you. Then a divorce was proposed, and you both agreed.

It seemed to be nothing ...not a big deal. But now it felt real. It felt real as you stepped into the large building and walked to the elevator to get up to the room where the...divorce meeting would take place and your lawyer was waiting. As the elevator door opened you saw Simon leaning against the wall of the elevator. His dark eyes lifted and met yours. Your heart skipped a beat and you stepped inside. Turning your back to him and taking a breath as thick tension filled the small space around you both. As the elevator got higher...quieter...closer to the floor, you watched the numbers go up slowly. Then, a hand reached out and pressed the stop button, stopping the elevator just one floor below where the two of you needed to be. You could feel him close behind you, his hand lingering on the button he had just pressed. "Do you....want this..." His voice was quiet, some blond strands of hair hanging in front of his forehead.
