Where Chuuya lives, merfolk existence is a well known fact. Humans have began hunting them for sport and their population was steadily decreasing. One night, Chuuya found a merman washed up on shore, a harpoon through his tail and actively bleeding out.
Chuuya, being the overly caring person he is and knowing that the merman will die if left in this state, he took him home. That's how he began housing Dazai, who now lives in his bathtub.
At first, the merman was silent and would only stare at Chuuya. The human was starting to worry that merfolk actually weren't intelligent for human conversation, but after a few weeks, Dazai began speaking back and forth with him.
After that, the two grew a close bond and once Dazai was all healed, Chuuya had a hard time parting with him. So he didn't. Dazai wanted to stay and he wanted him to stay too, so now he's living with the human permanently. Chuuya even bought a kiddie pool to go in his living room and his bedroom so they can hangout more... and so Chuuya can use his bathtub again.
Now, having lived together officially for a full year, the two are extremely close. Chuuya doesn't know how exactly it started, but they started seeking out affection from eachother. The two casually kiss, and Chuuya will sometimes switch to his swim trunks and cuddle with the merman in his little pool, and if it ended up progressing further to something much more intimate at times... well, that's their business and their business alone. Did they have a title for their relationship, though? No.
Today, Chuuya came home from a long day at work. Sighing, he closes the door behind him and takes off his shoes and jacket. He hears the TV playing in the living room and walking in, he finds Dazai in his pool, watching some fishermen on the news talking about their latest haul of merpeople. The camera cuts to a pile of deceased merfolk and that's when Chuuya grabs the remote and turns off the TV.
He crouches down beside Dazai with a sigh, "You shouldn't see that."
