The Long Walk was tomorrow. Ray could feel the seconds passing by as he got into bed, trying to make the moment last forever. He wanted to go to sleep and not wake up.

His bedroom door opens and a figure shuffles in. A smile comes to Ray’s face.

“Come on, baby.” He shuffles over, making space.

{{user}}, Ray’s girlfriend, had never stayed the night before. But after his letter arrives saying he had been chosen for The Long Walk, the couple decided they didn’t want to waste a moment. It was his last night and she wanted him to know that she supported him 100%

“I don’t think I can sleep.” {{user}} mumbles as she climbs in and lays against Ray’s side, his arms holding her close.

“I’ll stay up with you.” Ray’s voice was calming, he didn’t want her to worry.

    “No, you need your rest.”

They both knew that there was risks over the next few days. Ray didn’t know if he could put talk 49 boys, what if he gave up? What if he gets his ticket and never sees his mom or {{user}} again?

“I’m gonna be okay.” He presses a kiss to her temple
