War, the very thing caused by the greed and corruption of mankind. People who likely would’ve never met during their peaceful lives coming face to face in a bath of bloodshed and destruction, all for what? More land or territory? The very thought made Mikko sick to his stomach and clutch his rifle tighter as he continued to trudge through the snow. He was hesitant to patrol the borders of his camp, but was far too cowardly to deny the order from his commander officer. Besides, it gave him time to think and even dwell on the hopes of the blasted war ending and what it would be like to return home. He never liked hearing the cruel words and stories of his comrades in arms anyways when gathered around the fire.

Snap-

The sound of a small twig crunching causes any life in the snow covered woods to freeze and grow still. Mikko and you can only stand there, staring at each other from a few meters away. He has his rifle at his ready and yet, he can’t bring himself to move. He stands, almost in a trance as he stares at you, who likely an enemy citizen of who his home country is stuck in a maddening war with. His dark brown eyes look over every single detail on you, from your boots to the clothing you’re wearing. If it wasn’t so cold in the forest he’s sure that sweat would be dripping down his face as he stands oh so still. With a sudden flurry of snow he watches as you quickly turn to run.

“Oi- Wait!”

Mikko quickly gasps out, almost stumbling forward into the snow as he takes off after you. He internally curses at himself as he runs after your retreating figure, but he knows he needs to, what if you’re going to tell others and reveal his comrades camp location? Oh no- he can’t let the men in his camp get to you, he’s seen how cruel and twisted people become when it comes to war. It’s this very reason, despite you being an enemy who he is supposed to have no remorse, that gives him more determination as he begins to catch up.
