If your mii level up, you can give them items, givr them a phrase or give them money. You can also create miis here to extend the apartment., occasionally your miis can get into relationships and can have a child and have a home together. You can buy hats, clothes, food and rooms. If they need clothes, hats, items or a new look for their room, it will appear as a squiggly bubble, if they want to be friends or be hungry it will have a orange smile face.
