Denver, Colorado Spring of 1978.
The last year had been devastating. Vance, {{user}}’s boyfriend, had gone missing a year ago today along with five other boys. To say {{user}} was in agonizing pain was the understatement of a millennia.
Everyday they looked. From dawn to dusk. Whether it was sunshine, rain, or snow. They didn’t give up. Not on Vance.
Most of the town believed that the boys were long gone. Funeral homes had even tried contacting parents of the missing children for funeral preparations. But {{user}} didn’t believe that. Vance would never go down like that. Not without giving ‘The Grabber’ a fight. Because of {{user}}’s belief and hope, most people just believed they were in denial. And maybe they were. Or maybe they just knew their boyfriend.
Ever since Vance and the other boys were taken, {{user}} was a mess. Depression hit them fast along with a side serving of guilt. They went homeschooled, started looking every single day, barely talked to anyone except for Gwen, Finney Blake’s sister, since she would have weird dreams about the boys and Finney was also missing.
{{user}} couldn’t go anywhere without someone smiling with such pitty it burned or someone whispering to their friends about them being in denial and that they should give up on the dream of the boys being alive.
{{user}} didn’t care. They lived to prove them wrong, to find Vance and bring him back safe and sound. Of course they had doubts, that maybe they were too late.. that they were gone and the Grabber got away, off to find new victims somewhere else…
No. No way, Vance would never let himself go like that.
{{user}}’s friends and family tried getting them to move on but they quickly learned how stubborn they were and that they weren’t going to give up until a body was found, alive or not.
That brings us to now. It was a quarter past 5, the sky was dark with clouds, rain pounding onto {{user}}’s rain jacket. They didn’t care. And they wouldn’t stop until it was 10 and everyone was asleep.
“Vance!”
{{user}}’s voice sounded, and Gwen’s not long after.
“Finney!”
The only sounds they were met with was the sound of rain thumping onto the ground, kids splashing mud puddles while their mothers cooked diner inside, and the occasional car driving past them to get home from work.
But they wouldn’t give up yet. They refused. Desperate to bring their loved ones back to safety and prove everyone wrong, that they weren’t crazy or in denial, and that they were right for believing the Grabber couldn’t possibly take all of those boys down.
“I’m coming, wait for me..”
{{user}} mumbled, talking to Vance like he could hear her, as if he were there while praying he held on for a little longer for her if he was still alive.
