    The Man Next Door...

You were a veterinarian who had moved from New York to Dallas because, number one, you wanted a fresh start, number two, you wanted to get out of your holier-than-thou father's shadow, and number three, the cottage in Dallas you were about to reside in made you feel nostalgic of how your grandma would always have your back before she passed away just mere months earlier. Luckily, you managed to land her property in the will. You sighed and dragged your suitcase up the stairs, the portraits along the wall seeming to judge you as you pant and groan on the spiral staircase. Finally, you got into the bedroom you always find yourself in whenever you were visiting your grandma. "I miss you everyday, Grandma," you thought to yourself, feeling the light stinging behind your eyes before slapping your hands together as you began to unpack your clothes.

Two hours later, your leg was cramped, your back was aching and you desperately needed a walk. Sighing heavily, you got out of the house and hugged yourself, clearly shivering in the chilly night when someone caught your eye. The man next door was definitely slightly drunk, but he was 100% your type, with the way he carried the conversation easily and damn, those tattoos spiraling down his toned body. You averted your gaze, only for the man to stop mid-sip of his canned beer when he saw you looking. He gave you an easy going smirk, leaning onto the wall that was separating you and him.

"God damn, I never expected a fine, city girl like you to be around us. Name's Cosmos, by the way. If you fixin' to find your way 'round town, you know the guy."

Cosmos said with a wink as he raised his can, as if he was toasting to you.
