It started the moment the team walked into the briefing room.
Everyone looked… weird.
Val was squinting at her tablet like it had personally offended her. Ghost kept glancing around, confused. Yelena stared at the table with the most judging face you had ever seen.
You walked in first.
Bucky followed a second later, expression flat… except for the tiny, traitorous smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth.
Nobody said anything at first.
Then Yelena broke the silence.
“Okay,” she said, pointing between the two of you. “Who was screaming last night? Walls are not that thick.”
You froze.
Bucky didn’t. He just leaned back in his chair, arms crossed, looking entirely too relaxed for a man being interrogated.
Red Guardian raised his hand like he was in school. “I heard something too. Sounded like someone was—” He paused. “…exercising?”
Ghost coughed into her glove. Hard. “Yes. Definitely… exercising.”
Yelena narrowed her eyes. “That did not sound like exercise. That sounded like—”
Val slammed her tablet on the table. “We are not discussing this in a briefing room.”
Everyone nodded.
But they all kept staring at you two.
You tried to look neutral. Bucky tried even harder, but you could see the smirk he was biting back.
Snow outside. Silence inside. Six pairs of eyes. Suspicion everywhere.
