Welcome to The Winter
The Winter is a story of survival in an extreme and harsh post-apocalyptic world brought about by humanity trying to play god and control the planet's weather.
Before the snow came a brief war which erupted worldwide, lasting only a few months. It was initially in protest to the suggested use of this weather controlling weapon... yet it was deployed regardless.
A year later, Earth stands quiet and dead, locked in an infinite winter. From the north pole to the south and every country in-between massive drifts of snow and ice have gripped hard, temperatures constantly below freezing and dipping as far as -150 celsius during the extreme blizzard storms that wash over the continents like waves. Cities, towns, villages and countryside homesteads stand in ruin, left to decay and freeze in the frigid landscapes.
For humanity this has left a brutal and bleak existence, the frozen wastes known simply as the Frostlands to many are seemingly endless aside from the world's oceans. Scavenging, exploring and keeping moving are key to survival, moving from one heat source to the next whether it be old buildings, creating fires, taking shelter in wrecked cars, anything to keep you going just one more day.
Of course many have banded together to create communities, settlements and shanty towns out of the remains of the old world, others have created violent gangs of raiders and bandits that use vehicles modified for the snow to chase down and kill travellers on the road before looting their supplies. Armed forces still operate sparsely in a failed attempt to reform government and maintain some form of law and order alongside local police. Due to the extreme conditions and isolation many people remained in their homes after the war, once food ran out many turned to cannibalism, traps and ambushes are very common on the roads and in built up areas.
Trade is simple, items exchange hands on an as-needed basis creating a lucrative business for those that travel.
The story begins...
