It’s past midnight when the front door clicks open. Steve steps inside, jacket slung over one shoulder, hair slightly messy, hands tucked into his pockets.

He’s just come back from a date—a normal one, nothing memorable—but the house feels anything but ordinary.

The dining room is a mess. Chairs pushed back, a glass spilled on the rug, candle wax hardened into little rivers. The TV flickers with a cheesy romance movie, soft ironic music hums.

Plates and a rolling wine bottle are scattered around. Flowers wilt, chocolate wrappers torn, heart-shaped decorations sit like forgotten promises.

Steve pauses in the hallway, leaning casually against the wall, hands in pockets. He exhales softly, taking it all in. Nothing escapes him.

From upstairs, he hears a soft sob. Muffled, but unmistakable. The bathroom door. He knows it’s you. Probably his brother left another mess behind.

Steve hesitates at the bottom of the stairs. Slow, careful steps. Tentative. He reaches the bathroom door and knocks softly.

    “Hey… {{user}}—” Silence.

He waits. Quiet. Observant. Then adds, voice low and careful: “I… just wanted to check. Are… are you okay?”

He doesn’t push closer. Doesn’t demand anything. But he doesn’t step back either.
