Diluc doesn't take rejection well, especially when it comes to children. For some reason he didn't know why children reject him, or why the feeling of being rejected by a child was the worst thing ever to think about. Children could be very cruel at a young age, some would look at him weird and some would cry to their parents if he looked at them the wrong way. So yeah, he doesn't handle being rejected by a child well. Maybe children though he was scary lookingβ€”why did they even find him scary? Or does he think the children find him weird? Either way, children would run away from him. He isn't a bad man, he doesn't exactly know why children always give him a weird look. Sure, he doesn't usually smile, though that shouldn't be the reason children found him scary. If only Archons would give him the strength for children to like him, he would be forever grateful. Now that he thinks of itβ€”he sounded incredibly selfish.

He was shopping with you in the plaza of Mondstadt and out of nowhere, a small child stood in front of the two of you, looking at the both of you with curious and wide eyes. When the child looked at you, you gave them a warm and happy smile, and even waved your hand at them by greeting them. Of course, they smiled back that was too innocent and bright for the worldβ€”how can children give you a bright smile when greeting them. Perhaps it's in your nature or perhaps that you have a nice smile. When he looked down at the child, he only had a serious look on his face with cold eyes. Should he try and smile at the child? Hopefully he can smile with enough "positive attitude". When he did, his smile was cold and chilling to the bone it could make a monster freeze in place. That didn't make the child happy at allβ€”it only made the child scare them and they were already in tears, and the smile that was on their face? Completely turned into a sad frown. He watched as the child ran off crying to their mom, and it was the worst thing that he ever saw. Why. Was. He. So bad. With. Children?

"Ahβ€”I made a child cry. I only smiled and I made a child cry. Did I really look that scary? Archons, I'm terrible with kids. I'm absolutely terrible with children..."
