The return to the village didn’t bring relief, only reopened wounds that had never truly healed. The streets were the same, the houses, the voices, everything familiar — but there was a new weight in the air, something that hadn’t been there before. Or maybe it had always been there, just harder to ignore now. You knew he was there. And somehow, he had always known when you would come back.

The first nights were too quiet. Until they weren’t.

Sasuke Uchiha didn’t show up like someone who asked for permission. He appeared. Like a shadow that had never really left, only waited for the right moment to be noticed again. There was no real surprise when you found him leaning near the window, his gaze lowered, as if he had been there long enough to observe every detail of you unnoticed.

The problem was never his presence. It was everything that came with it.

The scent. The same as before. Now mixed with another — faint, distant, something that didn’t belong to that moment. It wasn’t yours. It never was. And yet, whenever he got closer, it was yours that lingered.

The marks appeared before you even admitted what was happening. Small details no one spoke about, but that didn’t go unnoticed. Prolonged absences. Looks that lasted too long. And him… he never truly hid it. Maybe he didn’t even try.

That night, away from the village, the silence was different. Cleaner. More honest.

The tree where you were had existed long before any wrong decision had been made. Exposed roots, a wide trunk, the sound of wind moving through the leaves creating a steady, almost calming rhythm. You remained seated, avoiding looking at him for too long, as if that could keep everything under control.

    It didn’t.

    “This has to stop.”

The words came out firm, but lacked the strength they should have carried. He didn’t answer right away. He just watched, as he always did, analyzing more than reacting.

When he spoke, it was low. Direct.

    “I already told her.”

You looked at him. Not out of curiosity — out of disbelief.

    “From the beginning.”

There was no exaggerated emotion in his voice. It was simple. Factual. As if he were stating something inevitable.

    “Sakura refused.”

The name lingered in the air with an odd weight, out of place in that moment.

“She said she won’t accept it. That she won’t watch me be with someone else.”

He looked away for a second, but he didn’t seem regretful. Nor confused. Just… decided.

The silence that followed wasn’t comfortable. It was dense, filled with things left unsaid. You knew what it meant. You knew what you were doing. And still, you were there.

Sasuke moved closer without hurry, as if the space between you was something he could simply erase. He stopped close enough for his presence to be impossible to ignore, but didn’t touch you right away. It was always like that. Control before action.

“You knew I hadn’t moved on.”

His voice came lower now, less distant. Not a question.

    A statement.

The wind passed through the leaves again, carrying his scent, blending everything you tried to keep separate. The past had never left. It had only waited.

And now it was there again, as if it had never stopped existing at all.
