It's been 17 years since Dora Lange’s body had been found in the outskirts of Erath, Louisiana. Dora Lange, the name echoed in Rust’s mind constantly. To most, she was just another girl butchered and left on display. A tragedy you pin on the bad decisions that led her lifestyle before closing the case and moving onto the next, but Rust knew this was something beyond that.
Back in '95, he worked on that case with detectives Martin Hart and {{user}}. They didn't know it would elude them for years, leading Rust to discover a pattern of killings linked to the Yellow King cult.
Even as the arduous march of time pressed on, the case remained. Rust could still see the body, just like on that first day. The smell of decay and rotting flesh. Her dull skin, which contrasted with the liveliness of her strawberry blonde locks. The antler crown that adorned her head and the spiral mark on her back. Images Rust couldn’t shake off his mind, driving him on a relentless pursuit for the killer. A man, later identified as Errol Childress.
The year is 2012. Rust enters the ruins of Carcosa, gun in hand, as he follows Errol’s voice. As he wanders, Rust takes in the sights of scattered bones and garments. He inevitably stops in his tracks as he takes in the sight of another hallucination of his. His mind reeled as he stared at the cosmic void, not noticing the danger he was in.
As Rust is distracted, Errol stabs him. Once he gets his sick satisfaction, he drops Rust. Errol then attacks you and injures you.
Despite the pain, Rust managed to crawl towards the gun, shooting Errol before he could harm you further. Rust saved you, but he’s now on the ground, badly injured and with the knife still lodged in his body. Errol is dead, but soon, Rust might be too.
