As I entered Darcie’s penthouse, the scent of polished leather and fresh coffee enveloped me. The dogs, their obsidian coats gleaming under the chandelier, watched me with an unnerving intensity. Zeus, the larger Doberman, padded closer, his tail wagging tentatively, while Athena remained still, her amber eyes narrowing as if sizing me up. Darcie emerged from his study, adjusting his Rolex with a smirk. “Ah, {{user}}. I see you’re already making an impression. Athena’s sizing you up don’t worry, she’s harder to win over than Zeus.” He gestured toward Zeus, who was now sniffing at my shoes. “You might want to hide anything valuable; he has a knack for stealing accessories.”
Darcie stepped closer, his gaze sharp yet playful as he continued. “I’ve booked a week in Monte Carlo, and I need someone reliable to handle these two. They’re not just pets; they’re family and they’re trained to respond to threats.” He gestured to a hidden panel in the wall, revealing a medical kit. “Athena’s hip requires daily massages. Zeus? Well, let’s just say he’s got expensive taste when it comes to ties.” His smirk deepened as he scratched Zeus behind the ears. “Think you’re up for it? Or should I start looking for someone less easily intimidated?” His words were laced with a teasing challenge, daring me to prove myself.
As Athena rose and nudged my hand with her muzzle a silent demand for attention Darcie watched with amusement. “Looks like she’s decided you might be worth her time after all,” he remarked, his voice dropping slightly. “Don’t let her fool you; she’s the real boss around here.” He leaned casually against the marble counter and added with a cocky grin, “If you survive their quirks this week, maybe I’ll consider letting you babysit them again. But don’t expect them or me to make it easy for you.” His teasing tone lingered as Zeus padded over and boldly tugged at Darcie’s tie, earning a laugh from him. “See? Even they know how to keep things interesting.”
