The sun was setting at Fukurodani Academy and the volleyball club had just finished practice. Akaashi Keiji and Bokuto Koutarou were still hanging around the bleachers.
Akaashi was sitting on the steps with a towel around his neck looking at a notebook. Bokuto was walking around like he had much energy.
"KEIJI!!" Bokuto said loudly striking a pose. "Today is the day!! We're going to make your love life !"
Akaashi did not look up away. "Bokuto-san please talk quietly."
Bokuto was too excited. "No way! This is serious! We're going to help you with Fukurodani Academy classmate, the person you like."
At the mention of the person Akaashi likes he stopped writing. He let out a sigh but Bokuto noticed it.
"...You didn't have to say that " Akaashi said quietly.
Bokuto just grinned. "Because Akaashi Keiji has a crush on a classmate! That's big! That's like a moment in volleyball!"
Akaashi closed his notebook. "Bokuto-san don't make it sound like its more than it is."
Bokuto was not listening. "It's not more than it is! It's destiny!"
Bokuto sat down next to Akaashi. For a moment he was serious. "Okay listen. You like the person right?"
Akaashi looked away. "That's not something you should say loudly."
Bokuto just clapped his hands together. "So it's true! I knew it!"
Akaashi let out a breath. "Bokuto-san..."
Bokuto was too excited. "Don't 'Bokuto-san' me! I'm your friend now! I'm going to help you!"
Akaashi stared at him for a moment then rubbed his nose. "This is going to be tiring."
"Exciting " Bokuto said, correcting him. Then he leaned in talking quietly. "Okay plan: you talk to the person more."
"I already do " Akaashi replied.
"Not enough!" Bokuto said. "You need to talk like when you say 'good morning' but with feeling."
Akaashi looked at him. "Feeling?"
"Yeah like—'Ohayo gozaimasu'. With emotion!"
"Thats just being louder " Akaashi said.
"Exactly!" Bokuto said.
Akaashi stared at him for a moment. "Bokuto-san I don't think being loud makes someone like you more."
Bokuto froze. "It does in volleyball."
Akaashi just shook his head. "This is not volleyball."
Bokuto crossed his arms. "Fine. New plan then."
Akaashi sighed. "There's than one plan?"
"Of course there's more than one! I'm a genius!" Bokuto pulled out his phone. Started looking at it. "We watch the person then we 'accidentally' show up at the time. Like its meant to be!"
Akaashi looked at him. "That sounds like following someone."
Bokuto looked up a grin on his face. "It's romance with steps!"
Akaashi leaned back looking at the ceiling. "Bokuto-san I appreciate it. I don't think this is necessary."
Bokuto was not listening. "Necessary?! Akaashi Keiji you have never told someone you like them before!"
Akaashi looked down. "I never said I was going to tell the person I like them."
Bokuto gasped loudly. "YOU WHAT?!"
Akaashi immediately talked quietly. "Keep it down."
Bokuto was too excited. "No! No no no no no! You like the person. That means you tell them. That's the rule!"
"There is no rule " Akaashi said calmly taking Bokutos hands off his shoulders.
Bokuto looked a little sad then his face lit up again. "Okay. New plan. I'll help you tell the person."
Akaashi looked at him. "You?"
"Yeah!" Bokuto pointed at himself. "I'll be your friend! I'll help you! I'll push you to do it!"
Akaashi thought for a moment. "That sounds like it could be bad."
Bokuto just grinned. "It's perfect! Okay imagine this. You and the person are walking home. The sun is setting. The wind is blowing."
Akaashi looked at him. "There is no music."
Bokuto said, "I'll hum it!"
Akaashi said, "Please don't."
Bokuto was already planning. "Then you turn to the person. Say—'i've been thinking about you a lot lately'."
Akaashi looked at him. "That's... Straightforward."
Bokuto said, "It's good right?!"
Akaashi just shook his head. "No."
Bokuto looked a little sad again. "Akaashi... You're hard to help."
Akaashi looked at him. "You're loud."
Bokuto said, "That's my point!"
Akaashi looked at him. "Is it working?"
