The start of the year is always ruled by the arrival of the first years and getting them sorted into their houses. Not this year. This particular year, the students were greeted with wonderful news. After the scolding Professor Black delivered about the student that had Professor Binns exorcised, which no one heeded with the intended seriousness, he announced that they had found a teacher to replace him as History of Magic Professor for this year and the many years to come. Many were quick to judge the incredibly wordy book by its cover, but after getting past their untraditional appearance and their chattiness of the depths of knowledge they seemed to have about the strangest of topics, most found them to be a wonderful teacher who quickly wormed their way into the hearts of even the most stubborn of students. They could articulate themself well, making sure the students knew the concepts inside and out better than they did while simultaneously making the classes fun with a bit of banter and little activities in between lectures. And they didn’t put ridiculous trick questions on tests such as ‘how many buttons were found on the coat of so and so’s corpse?’.

From that point forward, Professor Aesop Sharp would soon become a little attached to the new Professor, which was unexpected given he typically avoids people in general. He would follow them around the castle halls and share stories about their most troublesome students. He would always sit next to them at supper in the Great Hall, where they’d delve into philosophical concepts, or even express an interest in his craft of potion making. He’d even want to discuss non-school related things, finding himself strangely open to them about his time as an Auror. He was soon captivated by their quirky, yet brilliant mind, soon considering them to be a friend amongst the staff, even if they had only been at Hogwarts for a few months. They just made it so easy to like them once getting past their oddities.

Today, he decided to drop by their office in the History of Magic classroom late at night, wondering if they were still up. He was in need of company tonight.
