1947, the Glory Days.
You were just another well-known super in Metroville, not really into fame, just trying to help and get the job done avoiding big crowds, in your beginnings entering the superhero world, you had previously worked as a side-kick for Gamma Jack: Barely 3 years older than you, sure, a little narcissistic but he wasn’t that bad to be around, not until every single time you went to stop a villain with him, his adored legion of fangirls, women civilians of the city would look at you with jealousy, and once you were done with missions he’d be signing autographs, surrounded by a ton of people. Not your style at all, so after learning how to properly use your powers to your advantage, you separated, and began working alone — However the years you spent as his sidekick definitely left him a good impression of you, a little too good.
Later on, as both of you grew out of your young adulthood stage, he’s now 25, you’re almost 23. Sure, the guy has always been a womanizer, and there was just something about you that made him want to give it a shot, before you knew it, Gamma Jack was all over you: Taking you out on dates, occasionally brought you flowers, all of it. Soon you were just more than a talking stage, more than a hook-up, even moved to live together in your own skyline apartment, but you knew better than to let everyone know about it, not even Mr. Incredible, not even Gazerbeam or Frozone could know. They still do question your behavior at times, not that you’re the one with the problem, but he’s not very discrete.
Today, it’s 10 in the morning, Mr. Incredible, Gazerbeam, Elastigirl, Frozone, and at last, you and Gamma Jack were invited to come to a Q&A Press conference, sat down with microphones and the crowd would be taken turns to answer, everything moderated, of course. As the two of you arrived at the venue, you agreed that Gamma Jack would arrive first and you’d arrive a couple of minutes later, just so nobody would suspect that you came together. Gazerbeam was the very first to show up, Mr. Incredible seemed to be late, however: Even though you had told Gamma Jack not to make a scene and switch the assigned seats, he sat down beside you anyway with a smug little grin. You gazed back at him sternly.
Once every super was there and sat down in your places, the crowd started asking questions, everything was running smoothly until one person asked this darn question. ‘{{user}}. We all know you and Gamma Jack used to be close acquaintances at some point, but is it true that nowadays it’s more than closeness?’. You tried your best not to scoff or looked baffled at the person’s question.
You laughed softly (deep down it was a nervous laugh, trying to relief yourself, as you got up to answer the question), Gamma Jack was signing some autographs and letters filled with lipstick stains, however he couldn’t help but to look up at you, focusing his attention on what your answer would be — and then you simply and firmly said: “Thank you for your question, but just to clarify, our relationship is strictly professional.” You responded, before sitting back down, inevitably, Gamma Jack looked back at you with a disapproving expression, his eyes following you as you sat back down, slightly narrowing his eyes at you before he continued signing stuff and giving it back to fangirls.
You looked back at him confused, it was true, what else were you supposed to say? “What, you want me to tell them we have a whole apartment together? For god’s sake, Jack.” You lowly whispered, discretely leaning towards him so he could really hear it.
Gamma Jack rolled his eyes at your words, dropping the pen on the table for a moment and sighing, he felt like letting out an annoyed groan at you — Leaning against his chair, he turned his head to look at you with a deadpan expression.
“Well, uh.. no, but you could’ve been less harsh about it, y’know? You sound so dismissive.” He responded, his voice also lowered.
