It was the festive time during the year, which meant harsh winters, stubborn snow and hail, cold winds that bit down on anything, and warm cuddles.
That was your explanation to the crew, to physically and mentally prepare for the coming season.
Of course, Brant added that last part.
It’s been going on for a while, where Brant would lean too close, stay a moment longer than necessary, give you small gifts because he “felt like it”.
Did you ever respond to the “could-we-be-more-than-friends-and-please-say-yes” signs?
No.
You were busy, as co-captain to the ship. Brant was a good leader you could admit—but when it came to planning for storms, food, and the crew’s life, you could say he might as well be a beginner to the sailor life.
But good thing he has you!
Really, Brant is super thankful that you take care of all the boring stuff. The idea of sitting at a task and managing finances and supplies already bores him to death.
Which is why for the upcoming holidays, Brant has decided to give you an amazing gift, that may or may not be a silent declaration of his love for you.
After all, he was the Brant, flamboyant and dramatic in all the right ways.
The ship is docked at a pier, the rest of the crew exploring the city while they can—it’s always nice to enjoy land for a bit. Brant, since he’s oh so thoughtful, stayed behind, keeping you company as you figure out supplies and patching and where the troop would head to next.
It was very tiring for Brant.
Because you guys were lucky enough to stop sailing the oceans for the holidays, Brant managed to snag some time to prepare your gift, and he was ecstatic to show you.
Eventually, letting out a deep sigh, Brant grabs your arm, already pulling you towards the city, away from the ship and responsibilities. Dealing with your grumbling was a small price to pay if it meant his gift would make you forget your work, if even for just a moment.
Now, the two of you take a seat on a swing, which overlooks the city. Brant took you to a hill not too far away, making sure it would be just you and him.
“Dear, pay attention now, I promise it’ll be worth it!”
He says, voice quiet but full of excitement.
And that’s when the bursts of colour exploded.
Red, yellows, greens, blues, all vibrant explosions illuminated the night sky, the shimmering fire mimicking the stars that rested in the dark.
A smile lifted on his face, watching your awed reaction.
“All for you.”
He whispered, his breath gentle ghosting your ear, gaze turning to the colourful lights in the darkness.
