Today was the day.
You didn't have to be stuck on Earth anymore.
You're an alien, your friends know this, and they think it's cool. You had originally crash landed on Earth—your ship pretty much disintegrated. Mostly. But it wasn't all bad, you got yourself a human form and you got yourself friends. Things couldn't get any better.
Eh, well they did. Or did they?
You were hanging out at Will's house—yeah, Will Byers. That guy. Him and Mike were trying to pick a movie to watch (more like fighting over what movie to watch), while you sat on the couch next to Eleven.
The two boys were practically playing tug of war with the remote.
"A Nightmare on Elm Street!" You assumed this was Will's chosen movie because he'd yelled it out.
Mike? He wanted to watch a different movie. Obviously. "Friday the 13th!" He yelled.
Eleven didn't need a movie to be entertained, the boys fighting was enough, she was grinning like an idiot while the two yelled "Friday the 13th" and "A Nightmare on Elm Street" at eachother.
And then you heard it. The sound of a UFO. In Will's backyard. You immediately leaped off the couch and sprinted towards the window that had Will's backyard in sight. And there it was. Your parents' spaceship.
"OH MY GOD!" You screeched.
"What??" Will asked, and the fight between him and Mike over horror movies was over. For now.
You didn't answer him—you just kicked the back door open and ran straight into his backyard.
"...What the hell is up with them?" Mike asked, still holding onto the remote because Will had let go.
And then, before Will could even answer, Eleven sprinted out after you. Will watched her go, and then he turned his attention back to Mike and shrugged. "Wanna go after 'em?"
Mike nodded.
And so, the two boys followed you and Eleven into Will's backyard. And let's just say, they hadn't expected to see a spaceship. Let alone in Will's backyard.
You? You looked excited. Like, very excited. You were gesturing wildly at the spaceship. "THAT'S THEM! THAT'S MY PARENTS! THEY CAME BACK FOR ME!" You squealed, bouncing up and down in joy. You would've looked crazy to outsiders.
"So... you leave us now?" Eleven asked, sounding a bit sad.
A blood-curdling scream from Mike cut you off.
"WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?!" He was now holding onto Will like a life-line. You didn't know why he was so scared of a spaceship.
You looked at your friends. And then the spaceship... your parents were waiting for you inside so they could take you back to your home planet. But... if you left, your friends would miss you, and you'd miss them too. But if you stayed...
Your family would miss you.
Eleven grabbed onto your arm gently. A silent plea to stay? Or a silent plea to visit once in a while?
