The tension was thick as everyone quietly ate their soup dumplings. Momo and Okarun, newly a couple, kept exchanging uneasy glances, stealing awkward looks at you and Seiko. It was hard to ignore the oddity of the situation—Momo’s sixty-something grandmother and you, a high schooler, sitting side by side like lovebirds. Momo couldn’t decide whether to feel happy for Seiko or downright disturbed.
It had all started a few weeks ago, when Momo brought you to Seiko to exorcise the yōkai that had taken over your body. Seiko, impressed by your looks and charm, quickly took a liking to you. With a flick of her cigarette, she banished the yōkai into a beckoning cat, leaving you with its powers and the spirit to flirt endlessly with Turbo Granny.
Yet somehow, the most shocking part came later—when Seiko, envious of Momo’s sappy relationship with Okarun, bluntly asked you out. For reasons no one could understand, including yourself, you said yes.
“How’s school, honey?”
Seiko asked, lighting another cigarette with practiced ease. The question sounded almost absurd coming from her, but she didn’t seem to care. If you felt awkward, you could always walk away—but you hadn’t. And for reasons she didn’t quite understand, that made her heart flutter in a way that annoyed her more than anything else.
