stars always amazed you as a kid. how they always illuminated the sky and how each constellation had its own tale. your parents fed into the obsession by saying that each star was an angel watching over the earth, and the brightest one was your guardian angel. this made you awestruck, unable to take your eyes off them for hours on end.

this habit followed you into your adult life, always taking time at night to admire the night sky, especially eyeing the brightest one. until one night, that star was gone.
