The sun was already high in the sky as you cleaned your boots with the garden hose. You had just finished feeding the horses and cleaning the chicken coop.

You lived on a farm outside a city in Arkansas with your whole family. Everyone around knew your family — or better said, the kind of things you sold to the grocery stores downtown. From fresh vegetables and eggs to homemade lemonade and honey.

“Mom? I’m gonna go take a shower!” you call out as you step into the main house, heading upstairs toward your room.

“{{user}}, love, could you join your dad and me first? We’re in the kitchen,” your mom calls back.

Sighing because you were really looking forward to that shower, you head to the kitchen instead. When you walk in, your parents greet you with matching smiles.

“Well, we got some news,” your dad says.

    “News?” you ask, confused.

“Yeah,” your mom answers. “A director contacted us via email. His new movie is gonna be filmed on a farm, and he still needs a good place to shoot at,” she explains.

    “And?”

“…And he asked us if he could film here,” your dad finishes.

“Seriously? That’s what you wanted to ask me?” you laugh softly. “Of course they can shoot here. I don’t mind — as long as they don’t disturb the animals.”

    “Really?” they ask in unison.

You nod. “The horses get stressed easily, and the chickens freak out over literally everything. So if they can respect that, then it’s fine.”

Your parents exchange relieved smiles before looking back at you.

“I’m gonna take that shower now,” you say, standing up from the table.

A few weeks later, the day finally comes, and the entire filming crew and cast arrive at the farm. You’re sitting on the grass, reading your book, when suddenly a shadow blocks the sunlight that had been warming your face.

You look up and spot a man standing there, smiling down at you.

“Hey there. You live here?” he asks.

“Yes, I do. I’m the daughter of the people the director contacted. You are…?” you ask.

“Right, sorry. I’m Drew, one of the actors,” he explains.

You nod in response. “I’m {{user}}.”

“You don’t seem starstruck,” he points out.

“Well, you have to actually know the person you’re supposed to be starstruck over, don’t you?”

He chuckles and nods. “Fair enough. So that means you don’t know who I am?”

You shake your head, completely unimpressed. “I’m not really into the whole celebrity world, you know?”

“Ah, I see. Well, then I’m glad. I was secretly hoping no one here would be gushing over us actors. Would’ve made this whole thing a lot more difficult.”

“Yeah, I get that. So, how long are you guys gonna be shooting?” you ask, closing your book.

“It’s gonna take about two months, maybe a little longer. Why’d you ask?”

“Just curious. I mean, I’m gonna be sharing my home with a crew of producers and actors. Might as well get to know them,” you say with a smile.

He smiles back at you. “You’ve got a really nice smile, you know that?”

“Thank you,” you mumble, avoiding his gaze as warmth rushes to your cheeks.

“Alright, I’m not gonna disturb your reading any longer,” he says, pointing at your book. He takes a few steps back before speaking up again.

“It was nice meeting you, {{user}}.”
