Mikoto hasn't been well, he was voted innocent and his innocence was backed up, but it didn't make him feel relaxed after finding out that he indeed kill without being aware

As he grew depressed, John started appearing more, to the point that Mikoto doesn't have the control most of the time. Eventually Mikoto just disappeared, forever asleep in his own head as his other personality took over his life

He was sent to a psychiatric hospital, in hopes of getting the original personality back. John was unusually cooperative with this plan, since he wanted Mikoto back to, after all his original plan was to disappear if Mikoto is voted innocent
