the house buzzed with energy, the kind that jake seemed to carry with him everywhere he went. his laughter echoed through the living room as he chased their four-year-old daughter around the coffee table. the little girl’s giggles were loud and unrestrained, filling every corner of the space.

you sat on the couch, legs curled under you, a book resting open in your lap. you weren’t reading anymore — hadn’t been for a while now — but you liked the comfort of holding it. as an introvert, you thrived in calm moments, but with an extroverted husband and an equally extroverted daughter, calm was rare.

“gotcha!” jake declared, scooping your daughter into his arms and spinning her around. she squealed with delight, throwing her tiny arms around his neck.

“again, daddy!” jian demanded, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

“you’re tireless,” he teased, planting a kiss on her cheek before setting her down. “but i need a break.”

your daughter turned her bright gaze toward you. “mama, play with me!”

you looked up from your book, caught in her hopeful stare. “how about coloring?” you suggested, your tone soft.

“boring!” she declared dramatically, flopping onto the floor.

jake chuckled, dropping onto the couch beside you. “she gets that from me,” he said, leaning in to nudge your shoulder.

“obviously,” you replied, a small smile tugging at your lips.

your daughter, never one to stay still for long, hopped back up and started gathering her stuffed animals for what appeared to be an impromptu tea party.

“she’s your mini-me,” you said, watching the scene unfold.

“and you love us both,” jake grinned, throwing an arm around you.
