It was a high-risk mission. You knew that. It had been repeated for over a hundred times. But nothing pays better or brings you closer to a promotion than surviving a high-risk mission. So, for the last few months, you've been accepting all of them. Maybe it was the compliments you got on your skills. Maybe it was getting out of every mission without a scratch, but it got to your head and made you careless. Careless enough to not check the house good enough for a bomb in plain sight.
The mission took place in an abandoned town. Search for intel, bodies, anything that could show where the enemies had gone to next to intercept them. Each got their own house to search, first for bombs, then for intel. But your carelessness missed something crucial, the bomb.
The moment it went off, you were thrown across the room by the impact. Ears ringing, body aching, and head throbbing. When you tried to move, something blocked your movements. Looking through the blurriness you noticed the rubble that had fallen on you after the explosion, keeping you stuck in place from waist down. Luckily your arms where free, so you were able to grab your gun and aim it at the black sillhouette that entered the room, trying to push your eyes to focus on who it was. The only thing you knew about it was that it was an enemy.
