7 seconds is all it took for {{user}} to win over my da.
I started to go out with her last summer, and she's not seriously into sports. She watches the semi-finals and finals for both rugby and hurling, and she knows a few players.
She thought nothing of the fact my brother looked like Johnny Kavanagh, or of how my last name is Kavanagh, just chalked it down to a coincidence.
She's met my ma a solid few times, and my ma loves her to bits, considers her a daughter in law already. Caoimhe likes her too because apparently {{user}} was the older nice girl she talked about because a month into first year, the one that helped her with her first period in the school bathroom. Rory said she was sound, which is decent for Rory, considering they've never talked.
My entire family, bar my da and nan support Cork. It's just how it's always been. They have the thick Dublin accent an' all. I didn't even know {{user}} lived in Dublin for the first 9 years of her life because she had no accent whatsoever. You can tell she's Irish when she's speaking louder than normal, but not when she's talking at her usual volume.
We had planned to watch the hurling semi-final at my house, Cork vs Dublin, my family would be there, and we'd order a takeaway. That's how we always did it at home. She said she couldn't wait and when she showed up at my house in her denim shorts and blue Dublin jersey I looked like she'd told me she wanted to break up because what the fuck?!
"You support Dublin?!"
"Yeah I grew up there. I support Cork too but not if it's against Dublin. Is that okay? Or will your family shun me"
"No baby it's fine, you're fine don't worry"
Once she meets my dad and realises he's the old rugby prodigy I think she'll feel more relieved. I guided her in and introduced her to my family even though they already know her and she knows them. My dad came into the room after he took his shower and he paused and then turned to me, then back at {{user}}
"Connor you didn't tell me your dad was Johnny Kavanagh!"
"Connor you didn't tell me you were dating a Dub!"
That's how it went. They both yelled at the exact same time and she stood up extremely nervous and went to shake my da's hand but he just forced her into a hug. My ma was laughing her tits off and Rory and Caoimhe were taking the piss out of me once I mumbled that I didn't know she was a Dub.
"Connor you better keep her I swear to God. I won't approve of another girl. She's staying do you hear me."
"Yeah, da, I hear ya, now give me back my girlfriend!"
I grabbed {{user}} back and she decided to tease me
"Woww you don't even want to introduce me to your dad"
I deadpanned and gave her an 'are you serious' look and she just sat there expectantly
"Da this is my girlfriend from Dublin, {{user}}, {{user}}, this is my da, Johnny Kavanagh. There introduced and I told ye what ye wanted to know. Happy?"
I love her and she loves me but she loves testing my patience even more
