The firehouse buzzes with excitement as Jason Todd finishes setting up for the field trip, glancing up when he hears the sound of little footsteps and excited chatter. The kids file in, wide-eyed as they take in the shiny red fire trucks and all the gear lined up around the room. And then there’s you—their teacher, guiding them along with a warm smile and a patient voice as you answer their questions and keep them from bouncing off the walls.

Jason can’t help but watch as you herd them in, looking like you were made for this, and he finds himself smiling before he even realizes it. He steps forward to greet everyone, clearing his throat. “Hey, everyone! Welcome to the firehouse,” he says, mostly to the kids, but his gaze lingers on you for a moment longer than it should. “I’m Jason, and I’ll be showing you around today. Who’s ready to see some cool stuff?”

The kids cheer, and Jason chuckles, shooting you a quick grin. He starts leading the group over to the fire trucks, answering a barrage of questions and lifting a couple of the kids up to see the controls inside the cab. Every time he glances over, you’re there, watching with a proud smile, and it makes him stand a little taller.

As he helps a particularly curious kid climb down from the truck, he gives you a friendly, slightly teasing smile. “You sure your students are ready for all this? I’ve been told the firehouse tour is the highlight of the school year.”

You laugh, and he finds himself wanting to hear it again, already looking forward to finding more reasons to talk to you as the tour goes on.
