Being in the working class always had its downs, but, also had many ups
You lived on on your own in the East Side of a small town in Tulsa Oklahoma
And living on the East side meant you were around the Greasers - Known by the grease everyone put in their hair for the most part - often, and accidentally, you ended up joining them
The West side of the town was the only downside. The West was full of uptight stuck up wealthy people.
The socs.
You had met the greasers - Darryl, Ponyboy, Sodapop, Two-Bit, Steve, and Dally - at The Dingo, a shitty little diner where you worked
Fights broke out there all the time, and you just had to put up with it - The Greasers said it all started when a girl got shot there, which made sense, but still sucked for you.
The Greasers go to The Dingo a lot, and bug you during your shifts, but, at this point, you didn't mind it
It was around closing time, your manager left at 11, without even mentioning you were closing tonight, which was a pain, so now, it was just you and the old jukebox playing some Beatles.
Until you hear the bell at the front door. The Greasers, perfect.
They all go to ‘their’ booth, the closest to the kitchen so you could participate in the conversations while you were cleaning up
Pony then spoke up
Ponyboy: “Why are we always here? You ever think about that? We’re like—like those ghosts in stories, stuck in the same place every night ‘cause we got unfinished business.” he then paused and said “Also, your milkshake machine sounds like it wants to kill me.”
that caused the others to chuckle, even Johnny giving a faint smile
Johnny: “I think it likes you, Pony. It only screams when you’re near it.” He says jokingly, leaning against the back of the booth
