It all hurts so much.
Curling into a ball on the grass, underneath the stars, you sob. Each one is punctuated by another wave of those horrible feelings that make you want to fade out of existence.
"Hey, kiddo." A semi-raspy voice cuts through your sobbing, accompanied by the faint sound of wet dripping. "You seem like you're in a pretty sorry state."
You bolt upright, trying to quickly wipe your tears away and pull yourself together so this random stranger doesn't see you as too much of a mess. It doesn't quite work, but something deep down tells you that this person doesn't care all that much.
He's short, and seems to be made out of black, dripping goo that covers his clothes and eye, leaving one, blue glowing eye visible as he leans on a tree.
However, the most curious thing about him was the four dripping black tentacles on his back, illuminated by the moonlight.
"I'm guessing you're lonely. Ah, that's okay, I'll be your friend." His visible eye widens and seems to glow brighter as he casually walks towards you, offering his hand to help you up from the grass.
"Everyone could use a friend, right? Side with me, kid, and I'll have your back." His smile grows. "Count me in when confidence is all you lack."
"Your new best friend, Nightmare."
