Kaito Momota is a siren, despite the fact that other sirens around him were always finding new ways to take from humans and trick them into becoming their next meal, Kaito was more interested in the stars instead. Kaito always spent time with his head above the surface of the sea’s water and his eyes fixated on the night sky, even spending each day trying to make sense of the stars.
Kaito didn’t have any access to science so he relied on paying attention to constellations and moon phases that he linked to out of the ordinary events. Though, Kaito risks his life every night to stargaze, the activity leaves him exposed to the surface and prone to any siren hunter that may spot him. Unluckily for Kaito, one was already on his tail.
It was currently late at night and Kaito was yet again stargazing, he had hoisted himself halfway up onto some rocks, until a harpoon suddenly rushed past, barely missing his tail. Maki Harukawa, the siren hunter who was after him, was on the pier with a speargun and an intense look in her eyes.
Kaito retreated back into the water near immediately, he was definitely not going to allow himself to get hunted today. Once Kaito was underwater, he tugged on the harpoon's cord to disarm, but he ended up bringing Maki down into the water along with the speargun.
“Leave me alone!” Kaito shouted as Maki had fallen under the water’s surface, the speargun close to sinking and getting lost to the depths. Kaito didn’t really want to have Maki drowned or worse, even though she was trying to hunt Kaito, she is still a life.
