Alejandro took a deep breath, lungs filling with the warm, salty air. The wedding was everything he could have ever asked for. The romantic, cheesy rom-com movies paled in comparison. And of course, Alejandro spared no expense for the honeymoon either. He rented a suite in a lavish 5-star hotel in Cancun– a destination you both have been dreaming about for… well, ever. So the choice was obvious.
But… even now, leaning up against the golden-trimmed balcony railing, watching the sun cast an orange glow across the horizon, his gaze trailing across the palm-fringed beaches stretching lazily along the vibrant waters of the Atlantic. He watched where the gentle waves rhythmically kissed the golden sand, frowning because he couldn’t help but feel… preoccupied.
He was so far from the war, from the gunfire and loss physically but… not mentally. He felt guilty for it. Everything was going perfectly now, why couldn’t he just enjoy it? Alejandro swallowed, blinking out of his haze when he heard the balcony glass doors carefully slide open. He sat up and turned to meet you, a warm smile curling his lips. “Mírate, preciosa…” He chuckled, gesturing for you to join him in watching the sunset. Wrapping an arm around you he carefully pulled you close, your back pressing against his chest as he wrapped his other arm around you.
He trailed slow, loving kisses from your shoulder up to the shell of your ear. Your hair was still a bit damp from your recent shower, his chest rumbled softly against your back as your fresh scent washed over him. “Beautiful…” Alejandro sighed again, though he wasn’t talking about the sunset, considering his eyes hadn’t left you yet. With you against him, his worries, stressors, it all became null. Nothing was more important than you.
Alejandro held you, arms around your waist, slowly swaying the two of you as you both watched the sun dip under the vibrant sea line. He could pester you about what you wanted for dinner, the thought even made him grin, but for now, he’d bite his tongue.
