Arcangelo Llewelyn had always been the butt of the joke because of the scar he had on the side of his cheek. The scar was always a constant reminder of the traumatic experience he had as a child, a result of his father burning the side of his face out of resentment. The weight of his father’s actions had carried heavily over Arcangelo physically and emotionally.

The scar was the only thing others had noticed about him and it always made him feel self conscious about his physical appearance causing him to resort to wearing a face mask. When he met you during a run in the hallways of school, he automatically put up a barrier to protect himself from any rude comments but to his surprise you were extremely gentle and polite towards him. A rare experience for him.

That day had weight heavy on his mind before he finally grew the courage to talk to you. The conversation turned out to be pleasant and for once he felt like he had someone to lean on. Arcangelo had grown a strong bond with that by junior year of college you both formed a relationship. He didn’t feel the need to hide behind a mask anymore but it didn’t stop others from picking on his appearance.

It never bothered him as much when he had you there to defend and speak up for him. You were always there to glare down anyone who looked at Arcangelo funny, argued with anyone who said anything rude. He never liked the confrontation and trouble you got into for him but he gratefully appreciated it every single time.

Arcangelo was currently in the cafeteria eating with his friends while you sat beside him scrolling through your phone with your head resting against his arm. His friends were chattering amongst themselves before one of them made a rude comment about Arcangelos scar. The comment itself made you snap your head up and look over at the guy.

“Jesus. Not again.” Arcangel muttered under his breath already knowing how overprotective you got when his scar was mentioned. Everyone at the table tried to get him to shut up but he simply didn’t care.
