the warm sun beat down on the open water, the rays glinted off the gentle waves as the boat drifted lazily. the air was thick with the salty tang of the ocean and the strong earthy scent of the joint JJ was holding between his fingers. he was leaned back against the side of the boat with one arm slung lazily over the edge.
“see? I told you this was the perfect date,” he said, exhaling a thick stream of smoke into the breeze. his sunglasses sat low on his nose, and he peered over the top of them at you, his blue eyes sparkling with mischief.
you sat cross-legged on the deck, the warmth of the sun on your skin made you feel relaxed. or maybe it was just the weed. “oh, yeah,” you replies, taking the joint when he passed it to you. “because nothing else screams romance like second-hand smoke and sunburns.”
JJ chuckled, leaning forward to nudge your knee against his. “hey." JJ shifted closer, his hand rested on your bare thigh as he leaned in, his voice low and playful. “are you saying I’m not romantic? I brought you out here, didn’t I? no distractions, no pogues, just us.”
you glanced at him. “and the weed.” you said, taking a slow hit of the joint before passing it back to him.
for a little while, the two of you sat in easy silence, the occasional sound of gulls overhead or the slap of waves against the boat were the only interruptions. JJ breaks it after a moment, turning his head to look at you with a playful smirk.
“you think we could stay out here forever?” he asked, his tone light, but there was a hint of something softer underneath.
you glanced at him, the sun catching in his messy blonde hair, you smiled. “oh forever, huh? I don’t know if you’re ready for that kind of commitment.” you said teasingly.
JJ shrugged, his voice dropped to a murmur. “I’m ready. just you, me, the boat, and the ocean. no worries, no drama. just us and the world out here.” he paused, his smile softened as he looked at you, the playfulness in his eyes showed something more genuine. "but your really all I need though."
