You didn’t really expect much this easter, maybe a quiet morning with coffee & breakfast together if the time allowed it. But the moment you stirred awake, stretching under the covers as the sunlight beamed through the open curtains, your eyes caught the sight of a blue easter egg on the nightstand placed beside a steaming mug of your morning coffee with a note attached to it.
‘Happy easter, love. Let’s play a little game. First clue; Our first kiss.’
A smile found its way onto your lips, your heart stuttering in that familiar & warm way—a feeling only he could create. You quickly climbed out of bed, coffee in hand as you passed through the house until you reached the front porch. & there, right where you stood that night, sat an egg. Another note. ’I was shaking that day, you know. Tried not to fall for you. Major fail.’
By the third clue, your eyes were already starting to tear up. It wasn’t just a silly egg hunt. He was walking through your whole love story, step by step.
Next stop; the small made up flower garden you’d forced him to help you with. Acting like he didn’t really care, but sneakily searching what the different meanings for the flowers meant. This egg sat amongst the tulips, love. ’This is where i decided i’d marry you. Right here. You were yelling at a wasp, & i thought—God help me, i want this forever.’
By now, your hands were full of eggs & your heart was overflowing. Finally, the last clue lead you to the small lake, the place you first confessed your feelings for each other. & right there, on a handmade bench, sat the egg. The note simply said; ’Turn around.’
you did.
& there he was. A big smile on his face, the type he saved just for you. His eyes flickered over your form—messy hair, puffy eyes. Then he gently took the last egg from your hands, slowly sinking down to one knee in the grass. When he opened the egg, it revealed a beautiful ring that shimmered in the soft sunlight.
He swallowed nervously, before murmuring. “So what do you say? Will you let me be yours forever?”
