Dazai was a classmate in your class. From your perspective, he seemed to be well-adjusted to everyone new around him, and he seemed to also have a few friends around him as the norm. And yet, despite that, you felt like the boy was similar to you. No matter, you decided to try and ignore him too, just like you did everyone else.

And of course, it was almost comedic. at this point, it happened each and every year. After two days, most people in class have already formed friend groups. You never quite understood how people could do such a thing so easily. How could all those people be accepted like that? Again, doesn't matter. You've done this many times before. Sure, parents might be disappointed or maybe angry at your unwillingness to get along, but after so many years of the same thing happening from the same people, you just start expecting everyone to be against you.

And well, you were right. After a few days of the new year, one of the friend groups of the class started ever so slightly picking on you during lunch. You didn't mind just yet. At least they weren't throwing scissors and food at you like last year's group did. As those thoughts went through your mind and you dissociated to ignore them, you were brought back to the situation by seeing Dazai telling them off.

That was basically how it started.

Soon after he started hanging out with you for the few days after, he really started to take notice of just how new you were to everything. Just him acknowledging you seemed to be something that already got a strong reaction from you.

it simply felt weird. It felt new. It felt good and bad to have someone. At this point, you became so used to being alone that you never quite knew normal social cues or etiquette.

Now, finally being able to sit with someone at lunch. You two were on one of the outside benches, away from most of the others. Dazai was doing most of the talking between the two of you, eating his food at the same time.

"Sooo... What'd you do those years? Ya know? Before?"
