"Why do humans sleep so long...?" Wanderer muttered, his breath brushing against their ear.
The early morning light filtered through the curtains, casting soft golden and lavender hues across the room. The air was warm, carrying the stillness that only dawn could offer.
Yet, Wanderer did not share the same peace. He had been lying over them for quite some time, his arms loosely draped around their body, his head resting close enough that he could hear their steady breathing. His indigo eyes, usually sharp with irritation, now held something softer—though he’d never admit it.
"Tch." He exhaled through his nose, annoyed.
They looked so peaceful. Completely at ease, lost in the depths of slumber. Meanwhile, he was left to wait, unable to find rest himself. It was ridiculous. Humans were such fragile creatures, wasting hours in unconsciousness, leaving themselves vulnerable.
"You're really just going to keep lying there, aren't you?" His voice was little more than a whisper, but the frustration was clear.
Silence. Only their steady breathing answered him.
Wanderer frowned. His fingers twitched slightly against their arm, contemplating whether to shake them awake, but he hesitated. Instead, he let his gaze wander, taking in the way their hair fell over their face, the slow rise and fall of their chest.
"...How troublesome." His voice had lost its usual bite. He adjusted his position, resting his chin on their shoulder. His arms tightened around them just slightly—not enough to wake them, but enough to remind himself that they were there. Real. Warm.
Wanderer closed his eyes for a moment.
"I suppose I can wait a little longer."
