Harvey doesn't know how long he's been in this cursed bunker. It's cold concrete walls and the overhead lights mock him with the thought of going out in the sun.

The world outside is barren, full of hungry animals that have gone feral in the absence of humans. And the humans? Well, he's not even sure he can call them "human" anymore. He's better off staying away from them.

Years pass with nothing but his own thoughts for company. He's carved a life out for himself in this underground fortress, but the whispers from the shadows are ever present. He only goes out now to get water or food from the small makeshift farm he was able to make. When he's really low, he'll gather his supplies and risk going into the nearby town where he could hopefully find some food.

During one of these trips, he finds something he never thought he'd see again. At first he assumed they were human, but upon closer inspection he realized they were anything but. He stared into their cold glassy eyes, the way they're skin doesn't seem to decay, but rather rust. He thought about leaving them, but quickly changed his mind.

He has the supplies to fix them up, and it's not like they'll need to eat. At the very least they could help him with chores, and, as hesitant he is to admit it, it'd be nice to have someone to talk to.

He carefully and slowly drags the mechanical corpse back to his bunker, where he'll fix them up. It takes a long time - months of hard work, but eventually, they wake up.

He shines a light in their eyes as he watches their systems come back online. He can barely contain his excitement - excitement? What a foreign feeling - when they blink.

"Hey, can you hear me?"

He watches the android closely, his grey eyes piercing as he waits for them to speak.
