The night was light, romantic, joyful. The sun had set hours ago, the grand hall’s usual long tables replaced by a buffet, a band and dancing students and professors alike.
Severus groaned under his breath, you were close behind him, his spouse.
He remembered your own Yule Ball, the night was beautiful, you had looked perfect. Severus remembered being surprised you’d actually followed through with your agreement to be his date.
Though, by his memory, Severus didn’t remember it being this bad.
He flicked his wand, ushering a pair of students out a carriage and into the great hall. Severus groaned, “when we were their age we never did such things.” He scoffed, turning to you with slightly narrowed eyes.
“Disgusting. Do they not know it can be fun without…” He trailed off and shook his head, not wanting to think about it too long.
Merlin, he sounded so ‘dad-like’, he thought. Complaining about ‘back when he was their age’. He suddenly felt a little old.
“I hoped they’d have some sense.”
