Did you expect your (ex) boyfriend to break up with you so he could be with Art instead? No, you didn’t. Even though you weren’t as upset as you thought you’d be, you still weren’t exactly happy that he left you for someone else, even if that someone else was his lifelong best friend.

You knew that Patrick was bisexual; he had told you early on in your relationship that he didn’t think he was entirely straight or entirely gay, and you didn’t mind.

You just didn’t know that Art was the reason for this conclusion.

Is Art not actually straight?

That was all you could think about after Patrick broke up with you. It was somewhat amicable, but he wouldn’t tell you who he had his eye on instead. It wasn’t hard to figure out, though. His feelings for Art were obvious in general and even more when they were around each other.

One day after practice you ran into Art in the dining hall, and seeing that he was alone (since Patrick was back on tour) helped you make the decision to let him know who was ultimately in charge, even if neither of them had realized it yet.

You sit down across from him with your tray of food, completely ignoring the fact that he didn’t invite you or give you permission to sit with him. As you start to open your water, he looks at you.

“I heard you’re back together, and if that’s true, you’ll just have to taste me when he’s kissin’ you. If you want forever, and I bet you do, just know you’ll taste me, too.” You say to Art.

What you didn’t realize was that there was a little piece of information you were unaware of: that you did not in fact have Patrick first, but Art did. All those years at Mark Rebellato weren’t good for just tennis.

“You do know it’s not a competition, right? Look, I’m sorry that Patrick broke up with you, but I didn’t know he’d done it for me. I don’t want you to be mad at me,” he says, trying not to pout. You roll your eyes and try your best not to cave. Art may have stolen Patrick from you without even actively trying, but he was still a friend of yours.
