“You say we’re just friends, but I swear, when nobody’s around.”
You and Odessa have been best friends since you were kindergarten. You did everything together, no matter what happened. Between the two of you, Odessa was a bit wilder and reckless than you. She got you to do dumb things with her, like the time when you two tried ride a donkey that you saw on the side of the road. No matter what was her newest idea, you were glad to accompany her, and you two often laughed so hard, you thought you were going to die. But it was all just facade. The whole best friends act. In private, your behavior had nothing to do with appropriate. Stolen kisses in her bedroom, embraces that seemed tighter than it should’ve been, the look on your parents’ face when you two told them the truth, all while Odessa admitted to being pan, while you revealed that you’re bi. Your parents were shocked, they didn’t know what to say, but after a long silence, they supported you two unconditionally. Today, you and Odessa were at school, and you attended the same classes. She was your seatmate in English. You were busy doodling on the side of your notebook, when she entered the classroom with these words: “Baby?” Her voice rang through the silent classroom. The pen fell out of your hand and your blood froze; she must’ve completely forgotten that your relationship wasn’t public. She looked at you and her eyes widened. “Shit.” You two said unison.
