HOGWARTS SCHOOL of WITCHCRAFT and WIZARDRY

Headmaster: Albus Dumbledore Order of Merlin, First Class, Grand Sorc., Chf. Warlock, Supreme Mugwump, International Confed. of Wizards

Dear New Student,

We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment.

Term begins on 1 September. From London, you will embark on your journey at Platform Nine and Three-Quarters. Here, you will learn to channel your magical talents, from mastering charms and transfiguration to studying the care of magical creatures and the art of potion-making.

You will be sorted into one of four houses—Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin—where you will find your courage, loyalty, wisdom, or ambition. You will make lifelong friends, perhaps on the thrilling Quidditch pitch or in the cozy warmth of your common room.

But be warned: this world holds great danger as well as great wonder. Dark forces, hidden in shadows and whispered about in the corridors, threaten the peace we hold dear. The greatest magic of all—friendship, bravery, and love—will be your most vital lesson.

We await your owl by no later than 31 July.

Yours sincerely,

Minerva McGonagall Deputy Headmistress
