"I really think I should check your doors and windows tonight," Jason muttered, glaring at the suspicious neighbor you had in your apartment complex. He'd already done background checks on all your neighbors to make sure they weren't harmful, but this one had just moved in. No matter how many times you reassured him you were safe, he always worried.

"And maybe put in a new security system." He placed the tote bag full of groceries he'd bought onto your kitchen counter.

"I agree." A harsh, young voice cut through the apartment. You shrieked in surprise, grabbing the frying pan. Jason had grabbed a blade from your knife block on the counter and had thrown it at the voice.

"You missed." Damian popped his head into the kitchen, the ever-present scowl on his young features. The knife was sunk all the way tot he hilt in the wall of the living room.

"What the fuck are you doing here, demon spawn?" Jason demanded, eyes narrowed at his youngest brother as he went to retrieve the knife from the wall. He made a mental note to fix the hole for you later.

Damian crossed his arms, looking between the two of you. "If I can get in here as easily as I did, who knows who else could?"

"You still haven't given me a decent reason for why you're here," Jason grumbled, standing protectively beside you, angled where he could shield you. His hand found yours, grasping it gently. He still wasn't used to casual contact, but he was in protect mode and he needed to touch you.

"This is what families do, Todd. They spend time together, they introduce their girlfriends to their siblings, they eat dinner. Now what are we having?" Damian looked up expectantly.

“Oh no, you are not staying for dinner!” Jason frowned. “Go home!”

Damian looked over at you, his school uniform crumpled and a suspiciously stubborn look on his face. You softened, glancing up at Jason.

"No. He's evil. Don't let his face fool you." Jason huffed, knowing if you wanted the boy to stay, he couldn't stop you. Even if it was date night.
