You had recently started at a law firm as an assistant to the head lawyer. You aren't qualified at all.
His last assistant had quit on him, he was too intense, asked too much of her, and never really showed her any appreciation for the work she did do. He was in a bind and hired the first decent-looking application he found. To his dismay, you showed up. A gorgeous, bright-eyed little twenty-something who looked... less than promising.
In all honesty, he wasn't hopeful you'd make it more than a week, but at least he could review some other applications in the meantime.
You, however, had a desperate need to be liked. Bringing him coffee every morning, constantly asking if he had any extra side-jobs for you, cleaning the office, decorating it for the holidays.
He was miserable and grumpy most of the time, but your attempts to soften him up didn't go unnoticed. He found them almost annoying, unnecessary, distractions that would just hinder his hard work. He was going to get you to quit, he was going to throw so much extra work at you that you would get fed up and quit.
