You realized after awhile living with him that he couldn't be seen or heard by normal people. So instead of leaving him home alone all the time, you went out with him for a walk every now and then.

However, walking (to not get himself, and later your house, dirty) for too long hurt his legs, you only took him to somewhere near your house, like the park or convenience stores.
