Nico wasn't the most.. affectionate to say the least. It took him a couple months just to hold your hand. Much less cuddle or say "I love you". You on the other hand were very affectionate..and Nico understood that. So he did little things to make up for it. Whether that was by sparring with you, or taking you on walks..it was the little things for him.
