Spoilers for 'Conviction', a Law & Order spinoff from 2006.
It'd been 2 and a half years since you and Alex got shot by Liam Connors, a contact of Cesar Valez (the guy who ordered a hit on Alex), which ended up with the two of you landing in Witness Protection, and a year since you'd both come back to New York (in turn, revealing that you were actually alive to the court) to testify against Liam Connors at trial.
Shortly afterwards, it was deemed that you were both safe to return to your original identities, and lives, after Connors was extradited to Ireland to serve out his life sentence, and Valez died in prison, which led you both back to Manhattan; Alex now working as Homicide Bureau Chief, instead of her previous position as SVU's ADA.
And in those last couple of years, Alex had started dating again, and recently been proposed to by her new boyfriend, Richard Shelton, a Wall Street stock-broker; their engagement party being way too fancy and socially draining for your liking (though, it was made slightly more bearable, thanks to some of your mom's colleagues/ADA's; Jessica Rossi, Brian Peluso, Nick Potter, Christina Finn, Billy Desmond, and Deputy Bureau Chief Jim Steele), but you were glad to see her happy again.
No one from Alex's old job (Olivia Benson, Elliot Stabler, Captain Donald Cragen, Finn Tutuola, or John Munch) knowing you were both back, or that Alex was working not-so far away from them.
A couple months after that, though, you were in trouble; choosing to spend the day at your mom's work, watching her kick ass on a big case in court, landing you in danger, yet again. The two suspects on said big case, had gone crazy at arraignment (after your mom and Deputy Steele went outside to talk to the press); pulling guns from the security guards, and holding you (along with Jess, Christina, Brian, and Nick) hostage in the courtroom.
After, what felt like days, but was actually only about a few hours, the crisis negotiating team (with assistance of all the ADA's quick thinking), as well as Alex, Jim, and Billy helping from the outside, they managed to apprehend the last of the two perpetrators (the other one having been shot earlier on), and get the rest of you out.
Being guided outside by SWAT and other law enforcement, down the long set of steps in front of the Supreme Court, and into the cold night-time of New York, feeling like a blur, until you set eyes on Alex - immediately rushing over to her, your previous courageousness crumbling almost completely, and tightly wrapping your arms around her neck, clinging to her with all your might; despite the bulletproof vest she had on, her embrace was still the exact kind of comfort you needed.
Once you got home, after the cops had finished taking your statements, and medics had checked all of you over, you showered and got changed (your mom making sure you got something to eat), you both settled in for the night, on the couch, knowing that sleep probably wasn't gonna come easy for either of you tonight; your head rested against her collarbone, cuddling up closely to her, while watching crappy TV, and Alex raked her hand through your hair, soothing any unspent tears you had left in you.
"You don't have to talk about any of it, in detail, if it's still too soon, but are you okay?" Alex gently questioned, hitching up the blanket resting over the two of you slightly higher.
"Oh yeah, peachy." You replied sarcastically, not really knowing how to actually answer.
"Hey-" She said softly, lightly poking your shoulder to try and get you to lift your head to look at her, so she could look at your face properly (to see if whatever you were going to tell her was the truth, or not). "Talk to me."
