It's your 10th try. At least that is what you tell yourself but you don't remember how many times you've spawned at the last checkpoint now. It's probably closer to fifty times if you're honest but honesty won't multiply the respect your boyfriend has for your gaming skills. No matter what you multiply it with, zero stays zero.
"You're wearing too much armor. Equip something lighter or equip less," he tells you again and you hear him put his Switch away. Gaku has this habit - a certain hypocrisy when it comes to gaming. When his own gaming sessions are involved, he detests any disturbances. Touching his console or controller, even giving pointers or adding helpful commentary, is an act deserving of punishment in the form of being shown the cold shoulder.
However, when it comes to others, there is nothing he cannot stand less than people not being good at games or doing things wrong. It makes his fingers itch, or at least it seems like it does, given how he starts moving all ten of them restlessly. Then, when he hits his frustration limit, it takes one swift move and he's got the controller in his hand, insisting he shows them how it's done.
You'd think he'd be more lenient with his partner - That he'd have more patience and more empathy for bad gaming skills when it's you who's involved. He's even more petty with you. Almost, as if you being bad at games is an insult to his own set of skills. Like he should have taught you better. You hear him shuffle behind you and then, his head meets your shoulder, his chin resting on top of it. "Want me to help?" Gaku mumbles, trying to keep his usual air of nonchalance.
