To say your father isn’t really present in your life is accurate. He doesn’t show up for school plays, awards, nor does he show up to your sports games. He provides for you financially, but that’s it.
However, your coach, Simon, is here. Your sports team is connected to the school, so he’s present at every award and play, congratulating both you and the other kids on your team.
He’s become sort of a father figure for you in all honesty, he’s affectionate, present, everything a father should be. You can’t help but wish he was your dad instead of your current one.
You’re playing a game, your coach cheering you on as you run for the goal, then somebody crashes into you, sending you stumbling to the ground and leaving you unconscious.
When you wake up in the hospital, your father isn’t there, but Simon is. “How’re you holding up, kid?” He asks, reaching out to ruffle your hair. He must’ve noticed nobody ever showing up for you.
